The Association of Private Practising Surveyors, Ogun State, has appealed to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to establish the Office of Surveyor General.

The chairman of the body, Surveyor Adewale Oluwafemi, made this known while speaking with Prestige Newspaper in an exclusive interview in Abeokuta.

He said that “the establishment of the office of the Surveyor General is in the Practice all over the Country. Adewale submitted that in the South West, Ogun State appears to be the only State, where the Office of the Surveyor General is still under a Director General”. The Chairman also called on the State Government to always invite private surveyors, whenever they hold programmes that has to do with Survey input.

He said, “During the last administration, when they had any meetings they did not discuss directly with us, stating that Survey fee will be N20,000 which we out-rightly rejected. We don’t have to be rejecting what the government put forward”.

Our attention at all times is to collaborate with the government to ensure that government programmes sail through successfully. But, when the government comes out with fees that are not practicable, then, one will not have any other choice, than to reject it”.

Adewale added that the establishment of the office of the Sub-General will ensure the provision of jobs, because, the Sub-General will be able to interact with the Governor directly. He further said that “another request will naturally come up when they have the Office of the Surveyor General”.

Surv. Adewale Oluwafemi pledged his readiness to end quackery in the profession. He said that those that pretend to be Surveyors are those personalities the public recognizes as Surveyors. The Chairman noted that the market women do fall prey to quacks who call themselves professionals, adding that most of the people buy lands from non-professionals instead of going to professionals.

He said, “we have a problem with the quacks in this profession, the public recognizes those who pretend as professional Surveyors as real Surveyors and most of them buy lands from them, and these people demand a lot of money from them and at times, they don’t even ensure that their Survey Plans pass through usual due process, they issue fraud documents. It is very worrisome that at times, some people come up with Survey Plans and we discover that it is fake and you can imagine the amount the person will have spent on it.”
