Gov. Hope Uzodimma has assented to a bill from the state House of Assembly which empowers him to detain anybody without any warrant and this has created tension in Imo state.
Titled Imo state Administration of criminal justice law 2020 section 484 of the bill empowers the governor to effect the detention of anyone in the state without a warrant of arrest by court or the Police.
According to report, the sponsor of the bill Frank Ogbonna who is the minority leader in Imo State House Assembly protested that the bill assented to by the governor was not the bill he presented to the House.
He stated that section 484 was smuggled into the bill and it was not bill deliberated upon by the committee of the whole house.
Frank Ogbonna said he intended to present another bill to the house to seek the deletion of the section.
