The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, will soon join the league of tertiary institutions in Nigeria which will own its radio station.
The Rector, Arc. Olusegun Aluko told a team of Reporters in his office that final touches were being put in place for the station to go on air.
“We are looking toward the end of the year. We already have good understanding with the National Broadcasting Commission and by the grace of God, our radio station will be a befitting 40th anniversary present to all FPI stake holders”, he revealed.
Dr Aluko stressed that, “I want the training of the mass communication students to be practical as much as possible.”
“This is a polytechnic. We don’t emphasize theories, although we also ground our students in theories. But the critical things are skills. I like my students to be able to start something of their own soon after graduation and that is a function of skills, he added.
The veteran architect said, “The Entrepreneurship Development Centre of the institution, has rolled out more than 15 skills acquisition programmes and there are more programmes on their way.”
“We have found out that students may not necessarily take careers in what they studied here, the Entrepreneurship is helping them along that line. So if for instant, you want to be a caterer instead of being a journalist that will be possible!!
Dr. Aluko stated that, his administration was perfecting how to use academic –programmes as 16th Internally Generated Revenue source.
